Structured surveys were administered to graduates, microenterprise entrepreneurs, and households in Metropolitan Arequipa. The results show that psychosocial, economic, and cultural factors—along with deficiencies in the academic curriculum, weak coordination between university, business, and government, and limited support infrastructure—negatively affect graduates' entrepreneurial capacity. Additionally, a significant lack of institutional mechanisms such as business incubators, which are essential for promoting university entrepreneurship, was identified.
It is concluded that both the environment and academic aspects directly influence entrepreneurial performance, and a comprehensive curricular reform and stronger institutional linkages are recommended. These findings align with recent research emphasizing the importance of a contextualized, practical, and innovative higher education in meeting the challenges of today’s labor market (Gonzales & Ramírez, 2021; Pacheco & Soto, 2023; Vargas et al., 2024).
