ABSTRACT: Platelets contain various growth factors and cytokines that play a crucial role in bone regeneration and soft tissue repair. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous biomaterial obtained from the patient's blood and is composed of a three-dimensional network including platelets, leukocytes and bioactive proteins, which ensures high biocompatibility reducing immunological risk. Studies have shown that platelets release essential proteins such as fibrin, fibronectin and vitronectin, which form a matrix that promotes migration, proliferation and formation of new blood vessels. These biomolecules regulate processes fundamental to healing, including inflammation, epithelial regeneration and connective tissue formation. PRF enables a release of growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF and others that work together to accelerate tissue repair. Its use in regenerative dentistry has been shown to improve graft integration, accelerate re-epithelialization and promote new bone formation. In addition, its ease of procurement, low cost and ability to modulate local biological response make it a valuable therapeutic option for the treatment of defects in the oral cavity.
